It’s the time of year where we are rushing around hurriedly prepping for the holidays and the end of the year. Some are wrapping up 2025 and making plans for 2026. And even if you are not, don’t worry, there are plenty of people ready to get in your face about finishing 2025 strong and making 2026 the best. year. ever.
UGH (and yawn)
I don’t want to finish the year strong. I want to finish it solid. Grounded. I want to have harvested something from 2025 and I want to have the time and space to figure out what that is before being plunged into the New Year. I consider January the lost month – in the best way possible. It’s really NOT the New Year until Chinese New Year. For me January is the bubble that everything sits in before deciding what comes and what goes for 2026. (I don’t care what the printed calendar – that some man decided to make up thousands of years ago and take us off the lunar cycle – says.)

So in the spirit of finishing 2025 solid, grounded and giving myself something to take into next year, I’m asking myself the question of:
What is my Foundation?
What am I standing on right now in 2025?
And is that the foundation that I want to take me into 2026? Do I have a few more tweaks (for December and January) before I feel like I’m ready to ground myself into it?
These questions are timeless. Winter and these year-end holidays tend to make this sort of thing easier to our systems (our bodies remember how to harvest, winter and rest even if our society doesn’t.) Maybe it’s your birthday or the anniversary of your business or another date that you hold dear that makes sense for this sort of check in for yourself.
And really, this could be done multiple times a year. That way we stay grounded and rooted in what we really want. It also reminds us of what we don’t want, so we can catch that slide before it goes too far. Some side trips are good and useful. Other times this can catch and remind us that we are just deluding ourselves and taking ourselves off the path before we go down it.
What am I standing on? What is my Foundation?
- Solid Client Relationships – These have been extremely supportive and I hope to continue with them in the coming year.
- Solid Schedules – My calendar and work are on automatic. (I do work a full-time job as well so this is key!) I know when/where/deadlines for my clients AND the flexibility within them (see solid client relationships above.)
- Solid Bookkeeping – As that is my “thing” and this is my first full year in actual business, I’m thrilled with how this is going.
- Solid Donation – Interestingly enough, I got up and running once I decided that 10% gross of the money I bring in (I hate the word profit) was going to a charity that I support with my own personal (full time job) funds.
These may seem silly but they cannot be underestimated.
These are the things that keep you YOU. They can help keep you focused, excited, reminded, when things seem wrong, tough and just absolutely impossible. This is so much more than a why (ugh there too!) A why is just motivational but what you are standing on, what you have built, that you love, that is what is going to actually get you there. It’s got to be within this world we live in – living in reality.
Why shouldn’t every and any part of the business you have feel foundational, grounding and supportive as much as possible?
We can’t be chasing an end goal (that why again) or we won’t have and be who we really want to be once we get there. (And if that’s even what we want in the end!) We have to build what and who we want to be along the way or it will be a mismatch. These things that you build for yourself in reality is how you take your temperature and check your TRUE progress along the way.
Do you have something you are standing on? That you feel good about? That you know and understand inside out and supports you and grounds you in your business and who you are?
Awesome.
If not, it can still happen, there is time. And this could be a perfect time if you are looking to take yourself into 2026 standing on a business that supports you as much as you support others.
